Carnitas de La Luz Del Dia!

If you'd like to try the best Carnitas in Los Angeles, head over to Olvera Street to try La Luz Del Dia's Carnitas Tacos. I know everyone has their favorites around the city, but this place specializes in this crispy and juicy meat. My husband and I have been going here for years, and we cannot get over how delicious they are. The foto above is the awesome view of fresh tortillas and boiling Carnitas you get from the second floor.
Since we love to get our grub on, we usually order a pound of Carnitas and a dozen tortillas with a side of guacamole y nopales. This can feed anywhere from two tragones to five modest eaters. And don't forget the salsa de tomate! It goes perfectly with anything they serve.
Nothing beats a great taco, served by women who have been cooking up this awesomeness for as long as I can remember, and a good trio on a sunny afternoon in the city of angeles :D

Elote!

Did you know that Elote was INVENTED by Mexicans?! Yup, that's right, an INVENTION. I couldn't believe it either. I was watching a PBS show about Mexico when they brought it up, and I was so proud, I almost shed some tears. It is one of the greatest inventions known to man, and soooo delicious :D

If you're curious like I was, check out more information here.

Bootleg LA Dirty Dogs for Dinner

It's what we do here in the Blanco household. The awesomest invention of a hot dog wrapped in bacon. This genius idea could only be thought up by the amazing chefs that roam the dark streets of Los Angeles so that you can get your grub on after a long day in DTLA or a night of dancing.

No buns? No worries, I have pan de sandwich! :D

Tortas y Agua de Piña con Apio

I have a special place in my heart for tortas! I mean, I think we would all agree that they are just too delicious. (if you don't, you should just slap yourself now!) What wouldn't you love about homemade bread, juicy meat, and a few veggies sprinkled in between. I went to Cook's Tortas in Monterey Park with some friends a couple of months back and thought I'd share our food fotos. The food was good, but the Agua Fresca was delicious! :D
Amy's California Torta with grilled chicken, salsa, tomato, lettuce, and fried sage.

Evelyn's Torta. I can't remember what she ordered :/
My Cochinita Torta with a side of sweet potato fries and Agua de Piña con Apio :D

Pasta Dinner and Roasted Higos for Dessert

I love love love figs. My grandparents had a fig tree in their backyard, and I grew up eating them. I buy them whenever they are in season, and love trying new recipes. En la foto arriba, I roasted figs in the oven toped them with some vanilla ice cream, and drizzled some reduced balsamic over the top :D Try it, it'll knock yo socks off!
Dinner was a whole wheat pasta with homemade marinara sauce and freshly grated parmesan cheese :D This was a random pairing for dinner and dessert, but hey, I gotta eat.
